Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)
Calm your nervous system. Cultivate safety. Support deeper healing.
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a gentle, evidence-based auditory intervention designed to support nervous system regulation. Developed by Dr. Stephen Porges and grounded in Polyvagal Theory, SSP uses specially filtered music to help calm the body’s stress response, promote feelings of safety, and support emotional resilience.

Five hours of music.
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a gentle listening therapy designed to help regulate the nervous system, so you can better connect with yourself, others, and the world around you.
It is 5 hours of dynamically filtered music highlighting signals/sounds of safety (think mother lulling a baby or water flowing).
You can learn more about the SSP at whatisthessp.com.

I am a Certified SSP Provider. I provide the Safe and Sound Protocol completely virtually, so you will have direct access to the program on your phone. This means you will need a smartphone (with space to download the music!) and over-the-ear headphones.
There is a 1-hour virtual intake session that allows me to assess your sensitivity/response to the music, as well as guide the listening and provide regulation techniques to use in and out of session. In this appointment, I will assess the duration and frequency of your listening (ex: 5-30min/day). We will discuss the best option for you.
While listening, it is helpful to engage in a calming activity, like drawing, cuddling with your pet, or going for a walk. Rhythmic movement (rocking chair, hammock, swing) can also help you stay regulated during the listening.

Virtual intake session with me, where I observe and guide the listening.
After the intake session, I am available to you via email or phone call for the rest of the process for monitoring your progress and answering questions/concerns. Ideally, you keep me updated throughout the process so we can make sure the intervention is most effective and properly supervised.
Option for additional online 1-1 sessions with me at my usual hourly fee of $170 / hour as needed throughout the process.
Integrated into therapy
SSP can be directly integrated into therapy sessions with me. I will provide real-time support, pacing, and co-regulation in the listening session. Pausing to help you connect with your experience (ex: “heaviness in chest”) and regulate. I also incorporate other therapeutic modalities like Somatic Experiencing, IFS, and Mindfulness when supportive.
